Wow! Very cool. Bookmarked that destination. Thanks, J.D. Larry Doby, Al Rosen, Jim Hegan, Al Smith--some serious bats. Ralph Kiner joins the team in 1955, near the end of his career, and hits 18 HR and drives in 55.

What a resource!

Spooner's career was even shorter than I remember, but he still holds a ML record for recording two shutouts in his first two ML starts. Goes bust in the next spring training.

Terrific website. Thanks. I remember watching (on a rich neighbor's TV) this catch described on the website. I was 9!

CF Al Gionfriddo's magnificent catch takes a HR away from Joe DiMaggio, which would have tied the 6th game of the WS at Yankee Stadium. The Brooklyn Dodgers go on to win 8-6. There is another WS attendance record, with a crowd of 74,065 on hand to watch the game.
