again Steve..using logic over emotion. see blood is thicker than water..folks who are bombed will always support their leader no matter what. even milosevic maintained his support until his people began hurting w infrastructure destruction..then he withdrew.

but that is a withdrawal. not tantamount to having an occupation however good its intentions are.

and in a vastly different culture (not even Orthodox E European)

you are approaching it logically from the comfort of your environs.

but when u get rained on by stuff u think one thinks logically? and do like a pro and con decision? gimme a break

<Let Bush go in, he can steal the oil for all the Iraqi people could care, they don;'t get the benefit of it today. Let him break OPEC's cartel and reduce the cost of doing business and break the financial strength of the dictators that exchange oil for bullets. Sure Bush makes some stupid statements and gets confused between the bible and the constitution, but on the Iraq issue he is dead right.

And when it is all over, he will be looking pretty good, and the Frances and Germanys of the world will be looking plain dumb. And the world will be a better place>

Steve...When I read this I stood up and applauded your comments...

Steve,
Well said. Even from a 60's pacifist like me. But I've learned. Don't mess with my family or I'll be the first to take you out!

Steve-in other ME states is wealth being 'distributed' to the people? Why not try to engender democracy there FIRST? since they are our supposed friends anyway.

How was it before 1991 in the current situation? For the current situation, sure, post-1991 the overall exports have diminished in a food-for-oil program.

How about the Shah? How and who did he supersede?

The justification can and will be made for that change, but that is what COULD (and did even if only in part) foster counter movements (worse choices) at times

(see..the emotion over logic..like..it was not supposed to happen this way!..supposed to as arrived at by Western logic..gotta think outside the box when it comes to reactions in other cultures).

Chess games like those of the past impairs credibility imo for future ventures such as the current one. The Soviets were also into it big time even more. Hence the doubters all over the world. The past is haunting us despite seriousness and commitment this time around.

Even this current monster Saddam is a product in part of support direct and implicit from many places. It is this changing things one way and then changing it the other way from outside that shakes folks up. This oh we made a mistake and now we gotta clean up.

I am TOTALLY FOR democracy and globalization. But not in this way.

Steve Lee: OT - RE:("a little taste of the free world in the Middle East, which the people of the neighboring countries can envy")

If those held hostage in neighboring dictatorships are yet to use envy of democracy in Israel since 1948 as motivation to overthrow their oppressive rulers who stash zillions away in Swiss bank accounts, I would be surprised to see them use a Post-Saddam Iraq democracy as motivation to overthrow their rulers now. That said, I support the administration and pray for their success no matter who supports us. It's better than waiting to get wacked again somewhere on our homeland.

re: Let Bush go in, he can steal the oil for all the Iraqi people could care, they don;'t get the benefit of it today

Saddam has been selling rights to the oil at deeply discounted prices to France, Russia, China, etc. to protect him from the US and UK. In essence, the US is stealing from France, Russia, and the rest who are stealing from the Iraqi people. Isn't it often the case that those who steal are the ones who cry the loudest when their booty is confiscated?
