I noticed in Bush's speech last night that he was much more analytical and collegial than in his earlier good vs. evil speeches, but even at that he assumes that Iraq should have a democracy. We just can't help thinking that's best for everyone because it's best for us.

If their was strong indications that Saddam had the allegiance and support of his people out of anything other then fear then maybe democracy would be imposing something on Iraq, but I don't think that the people of Iraq love Saddam or don't want democracy.

I would agree that we should not invade other countries for the sole purpose of imposing a democracy. But if you are going to invade for other reasons anyway and topple the government, I don't see any good reason to impose another dictatorship or to leave the country as an anarchic mess.
