It was damage control. He looked embarrassed, but talked mostly about the experience. Larry asked him nothing worthwhile and only one critical caller was put on the air. She asked why he didn't ask Saddam about gassing his own people. Rather replied that he regretted not asking about that and a few other things. Such understatement!

He also said that after the cameras were turned off at the end of the interview, Saddam took him into a private office and questioned him about what was going on in America and our citizens' attitudes towards Bush. Dan Rather: journalist turned spy.
