When discussing media bias it is important NOT to lump "media" into a single category. Until the recent and remarkable success of Fox News, conventional wisdom was that conservatives controlled the editorial page, while liberals wrote the news.

Yes, radio talk shows clearly tilt to the right. However these are OPINION and COMMENTARY. It always amazed me that left vs right debates invariably turn into a reporter (left) vs a commentator (right). The best example was Sam Donaldson vs George Will, but look around and you'll see more (reporters: Chris Matthews, Tim Russert, Cokie Roberts, Bernard Shaw; commentators: Robert Novak, Mona Charen, Rush Limbaugh, William Buckley, Linda Chavez)

Read Bernard Goldberg's excellent book "Bias". He (a former liberal democrat) describes how the media slants NEWS coverage.

Of course, in order to pursue a rational discussion on this issue, we must first agree on definitions of "left" and "right". I suspect that Thomas M. would consider Eleanor Clift a fascist.
