Bit of a letter from an ancestor living in what was later to become the province of Alberta ... not a quaker this chap, veddy much church of England .... i had relatives who were big on preserving history, got several books here and considerable documentation for another ... pages and pages of letters and diary notes in one big book here, it's quite a view on what was happening in Canada, the UK, India, Russia, the middle east, etc ..... here are bits from two other separate letters, same fellow - 'We are soon to have another election, what a set the Canadians are for election frauds they beat the world. I am sorry the standard of honour is so low, in fact, no standard of that sort seems to have any existence, it is all cheating.' 'I should like to see the code of honour amongst not only the politicians but the people generally raised to a much higher plane, I think the Canadians are the worst lot of scoundrels in any English Colony. I consider it is owing to the Methodist teachings.' My quaker roots were uprooted by a very lapsed quaker, who managed to get 'mentioned in dispatches' in a rather imperial little war, and then deeded land by Her Majesty ... an apple that fell quite far from the tree, and then rolled through three continents before coming to rest, it was the better part of a century before contact was re-established with cousins in County Essex There is over a page of small print and diagrams in this book that explore the question of whether a part of a farm house was added in the renovation/addition of 1600, or the one thirty years before .... the new part of the house has in its chimney a decorated metal strip with the date 1694 .... still lived in, quite comfortable, all modcons installed, proper loo etc .... to see things like this, especially when you're told you have some relation to them, sure gives a new sense of perspective I've been given a book, by an Elvia Alvarado of Honduras, i'll type some bits in another day, quite relevant to the Freedom Vs.
