Amy,

re: Bush may win the battle, but we could lose the war

Interesting that this war is being conducted to stop terrorism with "weapons of mass destruction". There is an article in the current Conde Nast Traveler, that list the odds of dying from various "events", in any given one year period. Heart attach is nimber one, 1 chance in 300. Terrorist attack is 1 in 9,270,000, and is beaten by lightening (1 in 4,260,000), earthquake (1 in 5,930,000) and avalanche (i in 8,140,000). Then again, you are more likely to die by a terrorist attack than a dog attack (1 in 10,900,000) or amusement park ride (1 in 70,000,000).

One scenario I really worry about: assuming SH really has effective "weapons of mass destruction", and he uses them to kill or injure 1000's or tens of 1000's of our soldiers, what will our response be? Do we counter with our real weapons of mass destruction? And what are the implications of that, as far as our long term standing in a mostly democratic, and peaceful world?

It's one thing to push an army out of a desert that isn't their homeland, as we did in the first Gulf War. It's another thing to invade and occupy a country that has had years to prepare.

I agree, we may win the (first) battle, but we could lose the war.
