Most people in the US are moderates or hybrids, not conservative or liberal. The Crossfire battles between right and left are really inaccurate ways of showing the true debate. Bush's other problem is that he's been listening to the neo-conservatives who are quite far to the right. He has alienated moderates and infuriated liberals. Those alienated moderates will decide the election and are represented much better by the Democrats now, especially since GOP rule has cost them all dearly in the wallets. And if you think John Kerry's programs are going to be traditional liberal, you're wrong. He's strong in the middle, but very progression on energy and the environment and fiscally conservative. Everything else he is much less socialistic that Kennedy and much more truthful and responsible than Bush.
