That was an honest question. It was perfectly well understood at the time of the Gulf War that one of the purposes of the US was to prevent Iraqi domination of the world's oil supply. Frankly, I see no problem with that goal.

OTOH, it was not the ONLY one. There was an honest intent to restore the Kingdom of Kuwait, somethng the Kuwaitis themselves appeared to want.

The current situation is similar: Oil probably is part of the equation. But it is not the only part. The other part is elimination of a dangerous madman.
