"easy"

1. You don't make statements like "we're going it alone"... even if you think it- you act like the UN really matters (even if it doesn't) and form a consensus before you announce to the world there will be war.

"you act like the UN matters"

it seems bush challenged the UN to act like it really mattered last september...what it did was construct yet another resolution (a well worded one i might add thanks in great part to the efforts of colin powell) which was signed UNANIMOUSLY and it now seems loathe to enforce.

he clearly put the ball in the UN court. and UN seems to be quite determined to demonstrate its own irrelevancy....with special thanks to the french, germans, and russian (all with their own specific interests at heart, unlike the rest of the coalition)

2. You don't allow your press people to make statements like "it only takes one bullet" and overtly imply assassination of a tyrant head of state is "ok with you".. this puts your diplomacy on the same level as the tyrants and is shocking to the world at large (even though everybody knows the US has backed coups and assassinations in the past)

here you and i agree, but i fail to see how not doing so would do more to effect regime change in iraq.

3. You *wait* to build up your troops until you are really ready to go. Otherwise, the troops are out there in the region for large amts of time at great expense and this grinds on the morale... not to mention the weather issues.

the troop buildup that has been occurring inexorably since Dec.8 is the ONLY reason we are getting even a semblance of "compliance" . and the fact that as you say morale, weather and expense are factoring in (read more lives at stake) is exactly why the admin and the alliance will not go along with the continual saddam "cheat and retreat" game which was as amply demonstrated this week.

"Stuff like that, these are my issues with Bush."
