<Of course... but that is due to plain ignorance and laziness to become informed... NOT because we need to regulate companies...>

Ignorance yes... laziness to become uninformed no, the ramifications of lot's of things aren't imediately apparent. When they do become apparent I see no reason why they MIGHT not be regulated... DDT, certain dye's, on and on...

<NOT because we need to regulate companies...>

WE clearly disagree here, as above shows.

<If you have an informed and educated market place... companies will adjust and provide products/services that will cater to such markets...>

Well sure! They will also use dangerous substances, products, pollute, etc.... AND lie and cheat to do so until it no longer makes economic sense. Don't need to point out examples there.

<The real problem lies in the fact that "we the people" have become very, very dumb and idiotized by TV and the "dream" that daddy government is going to provide for every whim and wish we fancy...>

Perhaps in some ways... there is certainly some truth in that statment, the opposing view holds some truth as well. IMO, your statement was much more true 20 years ago, and now to expect people to ferret out all things on their own is simply idealistic mumbo jumbo... the right of the right doesn't espouse that.

<Now... I am not saying that we live in an ideal world... but it is not MORE regulation that we need or that it will solve the problems...>

Again, there is some truth of course... but such a blanket statement makes no sense IMO. The food industry for example has had practically NO regulation whatsoever.... the exact opposite of the FDA and AMA whose dogmatic adherance to 'science' has kept all sorts of useful medical practice out of american medicine despite [some cases only of course] absolutely no danger whatsoever! Meanwhile some spectacular failures call into question the process itself.

<But as far as watching people eat their hearts out full of Taco Hell and McGreaso... do ZERO exercise and then bitch that they are "fat" ... we need no regulation... we need a little effort to educate ourselves and an effort to go run a couple of miles everyday...>

First of all it's much more complicated than that... second of all, the US Govt spends billions on health initiatives every year... my point is I see NO reason why they wouldn't start talking about diet and lifestyle instead of worrying and spending on the ultimate ramifications of such: heart disease, etc. etc. Do you think the Governent is going to sit back while all the fat sick people with all their complications die on hospital lawns??? The government is going to pay one way or an other... then we'll have the law suits like against tobacco. Look it's self defense, I DONT WANT TO PAY FOR THIS... but you know we will! Of course we will. I think a lot of this is simple pragmatism, AND I think it's simple pragmatism to control what goes into the food supply, look what is done with water and air. Again, thinking that people should know what is in a cake mix and make their own decisions about it while working 2 jobs is simply bullshit. That's what governments are for, the take care of SOME things so people can be productive.

FWIW, I agree that lot's what you say about this 'fat' business, but if you remember my original point is that this ISNT happening in France or Germany like it is here. My point is they're doing something right that WE aren't. IF it's their strict adherance to food standards {I'm not saying it is} then IMO their system would be worth the cost... both economically and of course socially. My point about autism is that there is more going on than simply people getting fat, there are any number of maladies on the rise including anxiety which appears to go hand and hand with obesity.

<the problem is with the DEMAND... NOT the supply...>

I agree.

<So...if you want to "win" the "war on drugsā€ start arresting psychiatrists and taking their licenses to drug people away from them... >

But that would be more regulation! -GGG-

FWIW, I tend to agree, there are good studies out now showing cognitive therapy plus SSRI's as more effective than SSRI's alone AND even with none at all I believe.
