AuctionDrop Offers New, Effortless Way to Sell on eBay

SAN CARLOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 2003--AuctionDrop
today announced the opening of its first "drop off" location in the
San Francisco Bay Area. Simple and convenient, AuctionDrop lets anyone
sell goods on eBay (Nasdaq:EBAY) by simply dropping them off.
Customers take their new or used items to an AuctionDrop location and
the company takes care of professional photography, eBay listing,
payment processing, shipping and returns. Once sold, the customer
receives a check in the mail.
"We've created the easiest way to sell on eBay," said Randy Adams,
chief executive officer of AuctionDrop. "You don't need any
experience. You don't even need a computer. Just drop it off and our
knowledgeable staff does all the right things to sell it on eBay at
the highest price."
No payment is necessary, as AuctionDrop makes its money by taking
a variable commission on the sale. Customers can bring in anything
that is legal to sell on eBay and can be shipped by UPS (under 150
lbs. with some size restrictions). AuctionDrop will evaluate it,
photograph it, write a description and list it on eBay at exactly the
right time to get the best sale price. Once the auction ends,
AuctionDrop takes care of payment processing and shipping, and sends a
check to the customer. If an item doesn't sell the first time,
AuctionDrop lists it again for free. If it doesn't sell the second
time, the customer can choose to pick it up or have it automatically
donated to charity for a tax deduction.
"AuctionDrop is the right business to build in these times," said
Heidi Roizen, managing director at Mobius Venture Capital. "It taps
into the huge and powerful online marketplace eBay created and brings
online selling to the millions of consumers who might not have the
time or expertise to navigate through the selling process."
"There are millions of dollars of extra things sitting in people's
homes around the Bay Area," said Bill Rollinson, chief marketing
officer at AuctionDrop. "We make it easy for people to turn those
things into cash. In this economy, we think that's important."
Located at 1125-B Industrial Road in San Carlos, California,
AuctionDrop is open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday thru Saturday, 11 a.m.-6
p.m. on Sunday. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Monday, March 3rd followed by an open house.
