You thought wrong. There is a reason why Christians maintain both Testaments. They are Testaments to the same Thing.

But this statement of yours seems out of place. I do not see here a conservative Christian citing any Old Testament passage to rationalize war and the death penalty. I certainly have not done this. Though even the New Testament declares the right of the civil government to use the sword against those who aim to upset civil order, I have not here appealed to the New Testament once to argue the point.
