Average, Yes, if a disaster had loomed I am sure they would have found a way to remove/resupply the crew. The CO2 could have been exposed to space to strip them of adsorbed CO2(if that reaction was reversible?)
Minimal use of power sould allow the O2 to be extended as long as possible.

It all hinged on an inspection right after launch by a tethered crewman. They did have 2 space suits, so a tethered tour was quite doable. if only someone had thought of it.
