it is not the war but the selling of it that is the issue. Bush is the Ted Turner of presidents. He pisses off everybody... which is never good, but if you are the sole superpower in the world it is a catastrophe. Bush's rhetoric more than anything has damaged the US position wrt the UN, it has damaged the viability of the UN, it has damaged world demand for US products. In short, Bush's persona alone has prolonged a recession which might have at least stabilized by now.

Dear Ron: Much as I think Saddam ought to go, and since we have the troops in place now is as good a time as any, I am not so sure now we will have a war afterall. I think the destruction of those missles is going to give Saddam A LOT of political hay. Wouldnt surprise me if we are left with only Great Britian, Spain, maybe Italy, and Austrailia in our corner. To top it off, they had a SNAFU in Turkey and although the TOTAL Parliament voted YES for our troops by 4 votes the members present voted NO. We got a screwing and so did the Turks who desperately wanted that money. So, now what to do, Saddam isnt making it any easier for Pres. Bush. Now, if I were Saddam the icing on the cake would be to call Pres. Bush in front of international witnesses, apoligize for his wrongdoings, swear he wants to make it right, and ask to get together to make kissy face. Might give us both an out from this. jdn
