Piffing Enthusiasts!!!

Here is a chance for us to put together some trade ideas based on Point and Figure Charting. We will use PnF analysis of stocks for trades, short term in nature, noting price objectives, stop loss points and current stock posture.

How this will work.

Post trade ideas daily by 7pm Pacific time and one or two will be added to the trade list. When adding the stocks for selection, state price objective and stop loss points. You can submit the same stock every day as long as you think the trade is still viable.

This is not a contest, but rather a way to learn and participate in trading techniques used with Point and Figure Charting. This will show how to manage trades and enter or exit stocks at profitable levels.

For those that are just learning Point and Figure, don't be shy. Please post stock ideas and for help with analysis please see the Point and Figure thread #reply-9520478

I call it Zen Piffing because it is a way to invest, to trade whilst being relaxed and feeling in control... :-)
Well, whatever - just have fun and enjoy the pics!!

Happy trading all you crazy Piffers!!!

early barron's excerpts:

12:07 ET Bristol-Myers "shares are cheap and its outlook intriguing" -- Barron's (BMY) 23.30:

12:01 ET Royal Gold shares appear "wildly overvalued" -- Barron's (RGLD) 19.45: Barron's suggests that stock's 600% run in price over the past two years has left valuation stretched. Article focuses on metrics such as Price/Sales (30x trailing), earnings (65x), Price/Book (5.6x) and EBITDA (50x). "Indeed, giving the company the benefit of almost every doubt and making quite generous assumptions, the intrinsic value of Royal Gold is perhaps less than a third its current market price." Based on cash flow assumptions, Barron's arrives at a value for the stock of $9.

12:00 ET Network Appliance mentioned in Barron's (NTAP) 10.62: Article calls Microsoft's pending launch of new Network-Attached-Storage technology a "direct jab at the market dominated by Network Appliance." Barron's does not specifically say that NTAP shares are overvalued, but does note that stock "still" trades at 33x estimated 2003 earnings. (Keep in mind that USB Piper Jaffray's Ashok Kumar was in the market Tuesday with a warning NTAP might see competition from Microsoft soon; this will likely mute the impact of the Barron's piece on NTAP shares).

11:57 ET Barron's interviews fund manager Paul Stuka, whose $27 mln fund rose 103% in 2002 : Currently, Stuka is 34% long and 21% short with the remainder in cash. A major contributor to the fund's success in 2001 was its heavy weighting in gold stocks. He currently owns 13 gold stocks. The biggest name that he is still relatively excited about is Hecla Mining (HL 3.80), which was one of the best performing stocks in the NYSE last yr. One of the non-gold stocks he finds really interesting is Lionbridge Tech (LIOX). The $65 mln co is projected to turn profitable next yr and currently trades at only about 0.5x sales. He is also positive on Axcan Pharma (AXCA 9.84) and Omega Protein (OME). On the other side of the portfolio, Stuka has been short companies selling high-end and home-related consumer items, including PII, TOL, ETH, TIF and MHK. Based on his bearish stance on the financial markets, Stuka is also short Northern Trust (NTRS).
