Rande, As I said, the smell grows.
Increasingly it looks like hard core fools of beurocrats made errors, foolish errors.
Of course, years of icefalls and little tile damage have led to a complacent attitude. Nothing happened the other 25 times, so this should be OK as well.

What gets me is the admission that as many as 300 tiles were broken off by the ice(or in re-entry) and nothing happened.
Now if you strip tiles off checkerboard style and never leave large area naked that is different to what may have heppened here.

It seems as if the landing gear door was broken off and detached itself shortly after orbit was achieved. There was a small shape seen on radare that co-orbited from the beginning, but it's path diverged gradually after that. It seems to me this part was a lot bigger than 10 CM(4 inches) and so it should be among the 8000 objects larger than 4 inches that the radar systems tracks 24/7. That door was metal. Broken off tiles are radar transparent and so will not show.

I am sure they are trying to backtrack that object and see what it was?

The first inkling of a problem was a correction bias in the travel of the ship. Corrections for drag on the left side were made by the automatic systems with zero alert to the crew.?????. Loss of data also showed high temps in the wheel well area, as well as forward of it?? Again nothing the crew could see, although ground control was alerted.
That drag increased until the ability of the system to quietly correct it was exceeded and suddenly they flip to sideways to tumbling at 12,000 miles per hour. The physical shocks of this would kill the crew instantly. The heat and tumbling (and much higher G forces in tumbling) will bring them down faster and with more heat....hence the deflagration we saw on video. By this time, mercifully, the crew would not be alive or aware.

So what can be done in retrospect? Is a huge coverup under way? Are they acting like buffaloes and forming walls of strong beurocrats to protect the weak ones?
They need to eliminate dead wood at all levels. get rid of the people whose errors and stupidity led to this.
The American people should want no less.

Will we see and military/industrial axis try to cover this all up?
Let them try, people in the middle who know what happened will reveal the truth. Heads will roll, I only wish they would really roll and not just roll figuratively.
