What makes you think America is going to target Iraqi civilians, killing a member of every family in Iraq as you said?

Vietnam was a disaster. Ever since it has served as an example for everyone to question our governments intentions and that is bad. However, there are probably more than a few million Cambodians that may wish we had stayed. There is a ramification for everything no matter what we do. I don't think our intention is to lay waste to the Iraqi people. Without a doubt some will be killed but would it be better if we waited until Iraq got its house in order enough to kill our citizens? Who do you think is more likely to target the general public, the US or Iraq? I believe terrorism here is a certainty regardless of what we do in Iraq so can we feel any better about terrorism if we back away? We weren't at war on 9/11 and the terrorists still bombed us. PT, I think we're at an inflection point where we may have to do some things we'd rather not do. I don't think we can just stick our head in the sand and ignore whats happening. SO when its a no win situation what do we do? If we do nothing the size and scope of terrorism will grow and if we act we may enrage the terrorists. It seems to me that regardless of what we do we're a target. Since thats the case does it not make even a small amount of sense to try and set back the countries that we feel are working towards our demise? Iraq is not the end by any means. I think we need to deal with N. Korea as well.
