Morons in the News: Arab Teen Suspended For T-Shirt

A Lebanese teen in Chicago was suspended for ten days for wearing a shirt of his own design, with the intended message that not all Arabs should be held accountable for terrorism...

A Lebanese eighth-grader at Finley Junior High School was tired of everyone blaming "camels" for the terrorist attacks. Rightly frustrated at being lumped into the group of religious extremists who attacked the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, he drew a design for a t-shirt. The design showed the towers, a jet-liner, and a picture of Osama bin Laden.

Sharply reacting to the student's expression, school officials sent him home, suspending him for ten days. In a letter, the officials said that they felt that the student was possibly promoting terrorism.

I don't know if there's anything worse that could be done to this student's idea that most people wish to hold an entire race of people accountable for the acts of a few malicious individuals. After being cut down and abused by his fellow students simply due to his race, he is now harshly punished by school officials due to his expression.

Ian Itani said: "Everywhere I go people call us camels because of what happened. So I put the drawing on my shirt to tell them who did it and to say that me and my Arab friends didn't do it."
