Yeah, that part really bothers me. While my instinct is to be sympathetic towards the Turks, given the apparent cold shoulder they've gotten from Europe, all this on-again-off-again-how much will you pay me? stuff leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm impressed that the Kurds appear to be developing self-sustaining institutions without a bad case of the "gimmes". I hope it's not another case of backing the wrong horse in the name of "stability", but it sure does look like it.

Well, you know...the real enemy that Bush has taken on here is inertia. And inertia is pretty strong. And it can make you look really bad, because you have to keep looking for the best hold, while inertia just has to faultlessly remain what it is.
