So Lincoln made mistakes. Is that a justification for Bush to make them? I'd say no. Ruling the US with religion is wrong, and our forefathers knew that, and were as plain about it as they could be in their own time. In our time the lot of them would have been atheists and agnostics- in their own time they were suspected by many of heresy just for being Deists. Franklin was considered a heathen by many, as I'm sure you know, and Jefferson wasn't far behind.
