John, the only way one can settle this argument is to get some data. Perhaps the low royalty rate on domestic sales in China will provide the answer. I doubt that a GSM handset can be sold in China for less than a Chinese made CDMA handset with similar performance, unless the consumer gets a subsidized price. Because the royalty rate on domestic sales in China is lower than elsewhere, a stronger increase in CDMA subs compared with GSM would suggest that lower royalty rates do affect sales positively.
