A reformed UN could be relevant again, but not in its current form.

It isn't over till its over. Friday, Ari Fleicher made several quotes concerning the lack of support from France, China, Russia, and Germany -- quoting news articles and others about the fact that these countries have clearly thrown a monkeywrench in Bush's war plans. After having done so, he asked, "When were these written"?

The point being that we were hearing the same BS at the same point in time before the Gulf War. It is entirely possible, if not likely, these countries will all come on board. While the French do seem more unreasonable than in the past, I honestly can't remember whether the rhetoric matched the current garbage or not.

That said, the UN may well be dead in its current form even if it makes a last minute reversal. At least for matters on this level. I think Bush will try to salvage the UN after the war by giving it some makework in the aftermath. But it may be a long, long time before a president goes back to the UN to get support for any kind of war effort.
