World's abortion debate makes strange bedfellows
By Colum Lynch
The Washington Post

UNITED NATIONS — Conservative U.S. Christian organizations have joined forces with Islamic governments to halt the expansion of sexual and political protections and rights for gays, women and children at United Nations conferences.

The new alliance, which coalesced in the past year, has received a major boost from the Bush administration, which appointed anti-abortion activists to several key positions on U.S. delegations to U.N. conferences on global economic and social policy.

But it has been largely galvanized by conservative Christians who have cemented ties with the Catholic Church and cultivated fresh links with a powerful bloc of more than 50 moderate and hard-line Islamic governments, including Sudan, Libya, Iraq and Iran.

>>You do your best and accept that everything is in God's hands.<<

Is a lot better than "God is on my side, and I am working God's will." IMHO.

Hi LB,

I think it is fascinating (and a good bit perplexing) at how I thought people would react to this article when Rascal posted it compared to how I feel it is regarded when you post it. Even though it does not seem like the message should depend on the messenger, it certainly seems like it does to me...

BTW, LB and John M....Look up in google..."Jimmy Carter God White House...." you will see many articles on Jimmy Carter's thoughts, as well as an article from ABC during the campaign about Religion and the Candidates....Fineman might want to read it.

I'd post it, but want to save my two, just in case.

Hi LindyBill; Interesting article. One correction. They wrote: "Still, faith helps Bush pick a course and not look back."

What they should have written was this: "Still, faith helps Bush pick a course and not look forward."
