Sanyo Elec Begins Commercial Shipments Of OLED Displays
Sunday March 2, 9:12 pm ET

biz.yahoo.com

TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Sanyo Electric Co. (SANYY or 6764) said Monday it has begun commercial shipments of full-color organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays.
The displays are regarded as one of the most promising next generation full- color flat-type displays.

The first finished product with an OLED display from Sanyo will be an Eastman Kodak Co. (NYSE:EK - News) digital still camera model.

OLED displays offer bright, full-motion images that are viewable from a very wide angle. The displays comprise organic thin-film materials that emit light when stimulated by an electric charge.

In January Sanyo said it and Eastman Kodak would jointly invest a total of Y20 billion to mass-produce two-inch OLED displays in Japan this year.

SK Display Corp., a joint venture between the two firms, plans monthly production capacity of 1 million two-inch panels by the end of this year.
