North Korea can be the proving ground for tactical neutron weapons used in a pre emptive strike. The notion of not striking unless attacked first is rediculous when WMDs are part of the enemy arsenal and worse, when proliferation of WMDs and material for dirty bombs is sure to happen.

Shoot Lindy~ Maybe the UN can handle the NK mess....so far, they've done just a splendid job in trying to disembowel the US....

Of course, if the nukes are headed to NYC, that means the UN would go too.... oh, gosh, then what?

Seriously, what a terrible dilemma for the world right now.

There are four possible responses to the current situation in North Korea:
allow the current stalemate to continue,

impose a set of sanctions designed to bring the regime to heel,

negotiate,

or go to war.

As noted, the present standoff is unstable. In time, North Korean plutonium production will kick off a process of nuclear proliferation to every terrorist group and rogue regime in the world. It is doubtful that president Bush will allow this.

Curious that everybody mentions that North Korea is threatened by/is taking advantage of our stance vis-a-vis Iraq, but nobody mentions the very real possibility that North Korea is acting up now, screaming and yelling, because they are being paid to do so by Saddam Hussein?

If this is true, they are likely to shut up fast once we depose Saddam.
