I guess it's pointless to remind you all that this is likely to change the political landscape for Europe and the world for many years to come. If the US war remains unpopular, there are likely to be many Shroeders around the world coming to elected power on the strenght of US opposition.

You are extremely naive. The war is "unpopular" only until it begins. Within a few weeks, war supporters will be as ubiquitous as Woodstock attendees -- you won't be able to find an opponent anywhere.

How are YOU going to defend your position when the freed Iraqi people are dancing in the streets with pro-Bush banners? Are you STILL going to be saying we shouldn't have done it?

Al, <The common person in Europe (and the world) reacts to gut revulsion of the war for its violence and destruction, not material interests.>

Tell me why the common person in Europe did not protest the "splendid little war" Clinton fought in Kosovo. Surely there could have been more "humanitarian" ways of stopping Milosevic than sending in stealth aircraft (one of which got shot down) and bombing everything including a Chinese embassy.

This is such a crock it isn't funny. Let me get this straight. The French have a "gut revulsion" against war? Perhaps you ought to take a look at their history. Same with Germany.

The reality is that these people are concerned about their pocketbooks and the fact is that they have substantial, lucrative financial interests in seeing the Iraqi people continue in their oppression.

As I said, you are totally naive.

Al Re.. The common person in Europe (and the world) reacts to gut revulsion of the war for its violence and destruction, not material interests.

Except when that war favors them, then they are all for it. Case in point is Kosovo. Another is that France has troops in Algiers, and Tunisia. If France is so against war, why not pull the troops out of Africa. Why were 17 of the 33 companies selling WMD to Iraq German, when have such a revulsion, and what about Frances selling 2 nuclear reactors if they are so against it.

If the US war remains unpopular, there are likely to be many Shroeders around the world coming to elected power on the strenght of US opposition.

And if there are lots of WMD in Iraq, there could be a lot less Schroeders in the world. At any rate, there should be a lot less terrorists, which is the most important. Besides, all GW has to do, after Iraq is face down Israel, and try to settle the Palestine problem. Then everyone will love him.
