What people don't seem to comprehend is that it's not the agenda of our government to make our country energy independent. We probably could have done so already if we really put our minds to such a task ten years ago, after the first Gulf War. We are a great country with some of the greatest minds in the world. We put a man on the moon in one decade. We could certainly figure out a way to kick our oil habit in a span of a decade if we had the motivation to do so. The government's agenda is to keep the profits rolling in for the oil companies; to hell with national security or any environmental concerns.
