Perhaps stricter bankruptcy laws would cause less people to file for bankruptcy. But, they'd also be devastating for those struggling to cope with their financial woes and a financial boon to the banks and credit card companies. Perhaps it would make people more responsible about their debts. But, I doubt it, it would probably just make people's lives harder.
