Someone will certainly throw rocks at me now.

Let me be the first........................to comment.<g> I think that the problem with teachers presenting their opinions and beliefs in class boils down to whether they are mentioning their beliefs in a brief two way discussion format or are they promoting their beliefs. They weren't hired to sell their position. There are many ways to encourage individual thought and debate on issues without holding students as unwitting hostages to the teachers opinions and beliefs. It could be said arguably that the difference in age, experience and psychological shrewdness gives the teacher an unfair advantage to influence the student in any direction they choose. Witness the mullahs and Islamic fundamentalism.

Regards

C

OT~ She was that!! Appreciate your comments, even if I can't agree with your premise. Shoot, we can't even teach about the world's "Winter Holidays"...or barely mention religion...(and mind you, I'm not suggesting teaching the theory, but rather the history.)

But wait, were you a Poli Sci Professor? If so, then of course, it would be appropriate.

I'm not arguing that sharing one's political views makes one a good teacher. I'm simply arguing that sharing one's political views should not only be permitted but encouraged.

Politics for some teachers is similar to a religious calling. I wonder if you would have the same view of the issue if teachers were proselytizing?

Many schools are teaching nothing more then a clandestine version of religious pantheism. And kids are being proselytized to every day, cloaked in the language of 'Green politics'. ;)

Nuff said on this OT...<vbg>
