I'd grit my teeth but they just did the last step of a root canal yesterday. Tell me again....why did I have to write a check for this level of discomfort?

Ouch. That huge pin going down towards your skull via the apex of your tooth was not fun, was it?

If it is any consolation, I underwent a root canal some years ago where there was also a chronic infection antibiotics did not help much with, so the dentist's repeated injections did not numb the area before the started fishing out the nerves in my tooth with those long pins. Suffice it to say that it was the one and only time I lay bound, moaning, and begging a man to please hit me hard and knock me out cold :-)

Get well soon :-)

Three decades ago, in the throes of the energy crisis, Washington's hawks conceived of a strategy for US control of the Persian Gulf's oil.

Just which companies would get to claim Iraq's oil has been a subject of much debate. After a war, the contracts that Iraq's state-owned oil company has signed with European, Russian, and Chinese oil firms might well be abrogated, leaving the field to U.S. oil companies. "What they have in mind is denationalization, and then parceling Iraqi oil out to American oil companies," says Akins. "The American oil companies are going to be the main beneficiaries of this war."
