Actually, Sig, it has been a "Slow Motion" buildup. Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al, wanted to go in with 50K troops in the area, and would have forced Franks to do so last October if Bush had not decided to go to the UN. This gave Franks the opportunity to do a "US Grant" style buildup of troops, and we have enough forces over there now to take China.

THERE IS SOMETHING REAL SERIOUS GOING ON.

Seems like it. The 310,000 troop build-up exceeds by 60,000 the 250,000 recommended by Pollack for a quick and decisive victory. I thought that the 250,000 was high.
