no question wartime helped bring the US out of economic funk. as the only serious economy left standing it would have taken a (negative) miracle for the US to not boom after the war.

I can not remember if it was Sir. Templeton or Mark Faber that noted the Chinese are saving 24% of their income. It does not look like they are consuming like we do in the states. One thing they are doing is upgrading their food consumption. Jimmy Rogers noted this difference between his trip to China in 1990 and his last trip in 2000. Mark has noted Australia and New Zealand are benefiting from exporting food to China and ADM has 10 production plants in China at the moment.
