Jorj, I was just kicking myself. I have been scalping the 3-5% on bigger share volumes recently. 30-40 cents by tomorrow in ALTR is a good chunk. I put my order in for 12.30... I was spineless.

According to the article below, United Airlines lost $382 million in January (roughly a million dollars every two hours). But look at the highlighted sentence: the airline's labor costs, which are infamous for being inflated by rich union contracts, were $276 million for that same month.

Which means: even if United Airlines had no labor costs at all in January, they would still have lost over $100 million in that month alone.

That's gonna be one tough reorganization plan to push through the bankruptcy court. And the fundamental financial picture of American Airlines is nearly the same as United's.

United Airlines Loses $382 Million in Jan

CHICAGO (Reuters) - UAL Corp. (NYSE:UAL - news), parent of bankrupt United Airlines, said on Tuesday it lost $382 million for the month of January.

The No. 2 U.S. airline reported in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (news - web sites) that it had $1.17 billion in operating revenues and $1.51 billion in operating expenses before additional expenses were included.

The airline recorded $276 million in labor costs and paid $222 million for fuel.

United is trying to cement long-term contract changes before a March 17 deadline when it may formally ask that all labor agreements be scrapped.
