Bankrupt United Airlines continues to bleed cash, posting a loss of $382 million in January alone as it scrambles to get its expense structure under control. The airline also said the IRS cleared the way for the sale of some of the stock held by its employee stock ownership plan.

In a federal filing, the UAL (UAL:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis) unit said it had operating revenue of $1.17 billion and operating expenses of $1.51 billion in January, including $276 million in labor costs and $222 million for fuel expense.
