Only a handful of the 7,000 death row inmates since 1976 have been proven innocent. And it was usually direct testimony that was impeached, not the circumstantial evidence. Most of the 100 got off on technicalities.

There is reason to prefer direct evidence. As long as we are agreed that circumstantial evidence can meet the "reasonable doubt" burden, we have no beef.....
