I think the treasury secretary basically admitted
the US Government would let the dollar do as it pleased.

I think so also. The recent gold stock action seems unnaturally repressed, but maybe everyone's just being overly cautious. I've been buying slowly... currently 50% Au/Ag stocks, 8% PGM stocks... prices are pretty good and some PM stocks are consolidating, but there's no clear buy signal (yet).
