Why not? Since the US will be running Iraq. Will the administration lie? Will no one else be able to tell us the truth?

Yes. and Yes. We never got accurate statistics on Afghani deaths from Aghanistan. Never got accurate statistics on Iraqi deaths from the first Gulf War.

Since the Vietnam debacle, the US military no longer publishes body counts, or even estimates of enemy killed.

This is not in order to avoid generating sympathy for the enemy, but is also because the military discovered that they had very little idea, and more importantly, making a big deal out of the figures created pressures that caused the people who generated the numbers to generate them inaccurately (typically overly optimistic, whatever that means).
