The Euro didn't do damage to Germany since it was lower against the dollar for quite a while benefiting the Germany's exports. The problem seems to be that German politicians didn't have the nerve to make the labor reforms it must do. The reforms should have been done by the Kohl administration when the going was good but he preferred to leave to the next government.
