I see the whole thing as a huge gamble by France to reestablish itself as a world power and politically subjugate the CEE countries, which represent a new power based starting with Poland who are mostly pro - US.

Therefore also the sudden alliance of France with Russia which would like to weaken it's neighbors. It is a classic play from a century ago........ "let's devide Europe between us"

Further Chirac is out to destroy the US dominance and in doing so to gain more political and economic power.

Presently the social order in Europe is doomed as it can not compete with the US entrepreneurship and capitalism. Newer in recent memory was the US so dominant in technology from semi's to chemistry to biology. France and most of Europe can not stand it.

The other not less relevant point which started it all, are the big rewards of who will be embraced in the ME a region who needs billions upon billions of infrastructure work and also controls the world energy sources.

IMHO it is a poker game were France and Germany are bluffing.

It is Bush mistake that he listen to Colin Powell to have the UN involved. Powell as before is clueless and brought the US in another blunder. I can not point to any other person in the US that inflicted so much damage to the country and still keeps his job

Bush must show leadership and decisiveness in his policy and stay the course. Chirac and Schröder will lose all their political capital and the US and Central Eastern Europe will blossom.

Hope the US and UK will attack as soon as possible and establish a Federation in Iraq with the Kurds and Assyrians having their right share of power besides the arabs. It is also about time that the Turks as a nation should learn a lesson. The Turks slaughtered over 2.5 million Christians 80 to 90 years ago and stole Kurdish land
