I agree. But you *again* provide statistics for just the *down* portion of a cycle. That is not a balanced perspective.

If you bought the DOW (Nasdaq wasn't around) at the top in 1929 it took until 1951 to get even. 22 YEARS. About a generation.

And if you had this horrible misfortune to buy at the high, you would still have a return almost 5% to the present. And remember this is without dividends which for 3 decades ran about 5% a year.

Tell me again, what's wrong with long-term investing? And please don't tell me about that hypothetical chump who sunk his entire fortune in the market just at the top.
