Ahh, I see what you are saying, couldn't see the starting point you drew. You are using an original point on the top line which is part of the previous downwave which is invalid, all points should come from within the uptrend.

Sometimes you can use it. In a running triangle the b wave makes a lower low or high depending on the direction of the pattern. Unless you have a very solid count of what precedes the pattern you should probably not.
