And at least in technology, many (most?) people accept lousy positions and work environment because they know there are no jobs out there.

Was there a more current number than end of 2001? 319k would surprisingly be immaterial to the unemployment
percentage. Maybe only nudging it above 6% or so.

The January figure was 449,000

I think I heard on radio as of the end of 2002, this number is 1 million
