DRYR...

Lots of DRYR posts here today!

I was really surprised to see the FTC object to the Nestle-Dryer merger. "The FTC said, with Spring around the corner, it is rushing in to save ice cream lovers everywhere from higher prices if competition with Haagen Dazs, made by Nestle, and Godiva, made by Dreyer's, is eliminated."

LOL!...you have to be kidding.....since when is it important to "save ice cream lovers"?!? IMO *if* the prices of ice cream were higher, that might help in the fight against obesity. Dryers Ice Cream is one of my favorites...but both sides of this issue seem a little extreme.

Without looking, I think Dryers was trading at about $48 a share before the merger was announced? I wouldn't want to bet against Dryers for the long term....but where it trades in the near future seems to be anyone's guess!

See the "politicians" getting into the DRYR act

US Sen Leahy Praises FTC For Blocking Nestle Deal

While praising the FTC, he said the merger challenge "is a holding action and not a solution to the trend toward concentration."

"Consumers and farmers benefit when there is competition in our dairy markets," he said. "The Nestle-Dreyer's merger ... would put market power in too few hands. This is another merger that should be scuttled in the public's interest."
