The North didn't take preemptive action, perhaps(I don't know, you define it!). The point is not as you've twisted it, the point Ron made was more simple than that. The North fought the bad aggressors, ending slavery in the process. I think Ron simply didn't say the North started it(but they certainly "preempted" slavery, eh? You define it then) as you suggest. What Ron DID write was certainly both true and relevant in Ron's context, and hardly "stupid" nor false. Dan B
