AIDS in Africa:

<Africa could experience mass migrations that put pressure on Middle Eastern countries>
You mean millions of Christians and animists from Congo, moving to Saudi Arabia? People emigrate away from war and poverty, and toward freedom. The emigration will be in the other direction, as overpopulated and healthy Muslim nations move into emptying area of Africa, in areas where Islamists have seized control.

Yes, there are and will be famines. These nations have no government "safety net", so when the adults get AIDS, their children and dependant elders starve. The wealthy world has adopted a "tough love" Darwinian attitude, and is tired of hearing about African famine. 40 years of aid programs have achieved nothing in Africa. Why send good money after bad?

The details and intermediate steps could happen many different ways. But I don't see any other memes, any other systematic ways of organizing society, that can stop AIDS, other than Fundamentalist Islam and Christianity. Do you? Traditional African societies have failed utterly. Secular democracy, with its core Belief in individual freedom, is unable to change the intimate behavior of entire populations, and without that, the dying goes on. Communism has been discredited (although Castro's response to the AIDS threat to Cuba, worked very well). Any other candidates for Ideas that might work?
