Most of that money went to rebuilding the freeway near the mall with extra lanes and new exchanges to handle the increased traffic. And again this was not a subsidy. The money is paid back out of real estate taxes - which they pay in vast abundance.

They are also beholden to their tenants including Macy's who earns its rent in part by selling furs. These protesters were telling customers not to spend money at Macy's. It's more than a little outrageous for a judge to order a merchant to sit back and take that kind of nonsense going on right in front of their store.
