If "dancing in the streets" truly is the response to a US invasion, then how come so many thousands of troops are getting mobilized? Because the "Artillery General" that is in charge wants to do it the old "Grant takes Richmond" way, and he won out because Bush decided to go to the UN. That gave Franks the time to assemble a huge force in the ME. If we had decided to go without the UN we would have done it last year as soon as the temperatures dropped. If we had gone with a vertical envelopment into Baghdad last year, Intelligently planned and led, on the basis of Quickness and surprise instead of mass and position, It would have been over in a flash, IMO. I fear we will take more casualties now, using a WWII approach that I am afraid Franks has sold. I hope I am wrong, and we go with "Sudden," and use the rest of the troops for backup.

All those reserves would be a waste of money if the Iraqi public is as supportive of a US led invasion as the Afghan public was.>>> The situations in the Philippines and N Korea and elsewhere indicate that big Military forces may be needed at any time in the future. Iraq is being handled as a maximum "show of force" to make terrorists think twice and also to convince those even in South America, or anywhere, that they will be hunted down even while hiding under the protection of sovereign regime. And to force Saddam . if possible, to give up the WMD's and avoid a war. Military people need training , need relief from boredom, need to feel useful, need to understand what they may be faced with in dealings with foreigners, need to test new weapons, need to find how to move fast even to areas 1/2 the globe away. And arrive with enough spares and with equipment working Need to communicate with allies no matter what language they speak.Need to check compatibility of communications gear Intelligent allies, like the UK, Australia, and even France ( who has planes flying in Iraq) will stand to learn a great deal by participating in any Iraq operation. As will the nearly 20 other countries in our loose coalition. Iraq is an excellent proving ground for these activities, we have been there before,and those who have been there can help newbies survive. Nearby Arab Nations agree that Saddam is a menace best removed. Sig .
