Ms. Braun has always been a bit arrogant. Her election to the Senate in 1992 was a bit of a fluke. She won a three way Democratic primary and beat a weak Republican candidate. It didn't help that Clinton swamped Bush. The Republicans did not think that they could beat a sitting Senator (Dixon) and nobody stepped up. If I am not mistaken, I think that Rumsfeld took a pass on the election. Its hard to remember given that Rumsfeld took two or three passes on Senate races in Illinois. Prior to her election to the Senate she was nothing but a hack Chicago politician.
