Well, it is your (USA's) system, I think its the task of your educational system to teach you
the basics of checks and balances and deadlock, tight catch-22s.

For adult education it might be the media, but I would recommend some regimes with

c-span.org

One could start with basics like

democrat president + republican house
and
republican president + democrat house

as the senate should be the one which does not
have to run for re-election every other year.
